Arrow's First Look At Vigilante Is As Badass As The Comic Version

Season 5 of Arrow is currently filled with fresh-faced baby vigilantes who are still learning the crime-fighting ropes from Oliver. Now the show is actually getting another one, and, this time, he really does go by Vigilante. He looks like a total badass, too. Take a gander at this guy...

Arrow released our first look at the new Star City vigilante known as Vigilante today, along with an official synopsis of the first episode that the new character will appear in. I have to say, he looks pretty damn dangerous. It's probably a good thing that Oliver has him subdued, otherwise I get the feeling that this conversation wouldn't be nearly as peaceful as it appears to be. Considering how Oliver feels about new vigilantes working in his city, he's probably none too thrilled with this guy, and is likely trying to get him to call off his crime-fighting antics, which, now that I look at that synopsis again, are actually pretty deadly. So, yeah, I'm guessing Oliver wants to put a stop to this. Doesn't this new guy know that the Green Arrow is the only vigilante in Star City who's allowed to drop bodies?

In case you didn't know, Vigilante is, in fact, a classic DC comic character. He first showed up in New Teen Titans #23 in 1982, and was a Manhattan District Attorney who took to the vigilante lifestyle after his family was killed by a bomb that was planted by the mob. Vigilante was trained by a number of mystical spirits who were looking for revenge of their own, and, at first, made an effort to take on opponents by using non-lethal means. As time went on, though, he became more violent and began to care less about who got caught in the crossfire when he took on bad guys, while also being conflicted over abandoning law and order in his role as Vigilante.

From the looks of this next photo of Vigilante, we are most likely getting treated to a version of the character who has stopped giving any fucks about what he does to get the criminals he's after.

Well, damn. Vigilante is holding Mr. Terrific at gun point. That's not cool, dude. Not cool at all. That's a sterling way to completely alienate every other vigilante in town, and you're the new kid on the block, so you're already a vigilante outsider. Oliver will never let you play with the new and not-really-improved Team Arrow now.

We'll get to check out Vigilante in action next Wednesday, November 16, when Arrow airs at 8 p.m. EST. Hit the next page to watch the trailer for next week's episode.
