First Look At Orange Is The New Black Picks Up Right After The Cliffhanger

Netflix subscribers always seem to be in wait for the next big release, especially now that the streaming service has a conveyor belt of original programming aimed at just about every demographic out there. Isn't it strange, though, that it wasn't even four years ago that we were all waiting with anticipation to get our eyes on Netflix's third original drama, Orange Is the New Black? And now, we're rabid to find out what madness awaits Litchfield's elite in Season 5, and this first look video below takes us right back into last season's cliffhanger.

Oh, hell yeah! I could name a few TV dramas that I've watched in 2017 with entire episodes that didn't contain as much intensity and pulse-popping excitement as this clip, which shows us what the very first minute of Season 5 will deliver. Granted, Orange Is the New Black has the advantage of being one of Netflix's strongest originals, and it's following up on one of the craziest scenes of the entire series, which was itself spawned from the aftermath of one of the series' biggest deaths. It would have been a pisser had it not been exactly as invigorating as this.

While I'm not particularly interested in seeing what happens with Piper and Alex, who are independent of the growing crowd surrounding Daya holding the guard Humphrey at gunpoint, I'm definitely eager to find out everything that goes down within that near-riot, though. Knowing everything we do about Daya, it doesn't seem likely that she will actually shoot Humphrey, or anyone else for that matter. In the clip, we see her feeble attempts to concentrate and quiet everyone else down, so that gunshot we hear at the very end is almost definitely her just shooting into the ceiling or the floor as a way of ushering in silence. But then what? No matter what happens next, she's fucked just for threatening a guard with a loaded weapon, so hopefully something drastic goes down.

Of course, given how many of Daya's fellow inmates are chanting at her to use the gun to shoot Humphrey, who was just one part of the dumpster fire that was Litchfield's new guard system. He probably doesn't deserve to die quite like this, but these women demand for a statement to be made, and I wouldn't be surprise if one of the other inmates gets the gun away from Daya during this ordeal and doesn't hesitate to end Humphrey's life. The options are all interesting.

Thankfully, we won't have to worry about creator Jenji Kohan and her writing team bilking viewers out of a resolution by skipping forward in time. It has already been confirmed that Season 5 of Orange Is the New Black will take place entirely over the span of three days and will offer an extremely detailed look at whatever major scandals and insubordination the prison gets embroiled in next.

Two months is still a long time to wait, but not as long as it took to get from the Season 4 finale to this point, so that's something. Orange Is the New Black will return to Netflix for Season 5 on Friday, June 9, at 12:01 a.m. PT.
