How To Get Away With Murder Just Added A Star Wars Actor For Season 4

ABC's Thursday night lineup is much less dramatic in the summer, and we sadly still have months to wait before TGIT starts up again in the fall. Luckily, we now know of a brand new casting that has us more excited than ever about the new season of How to Get Away With Murder. A Star Wars actor has landed a key role. Jimmy Smits will appear in the upcoming Season 4 of How to Get Away With Murder.

Jimmy Smits will be a guest star throughout Season 4 with an arc that will keep him closely tied to the new mystery that will baffle Annalise and Co. Deadline reports that Smits' character will have a prominent place in Annalise's life, and we'll see plenty of him. Although he is technically billed as a guest star, Smits' role has been described as "season-long" and "recurring."

Unfortunately, not a whole lot of details are currently available about how Jimmy Smits' character will fit into the drama this fall. Shondaland series like How to Get Away With Murder and Grey's Anatomy tend to keep a tight lid on spoilers, and we may be waiting until the season premieres to really learn why Smits' character has suddenly entered the scene. Given that the Season 3 finale finally resolved the mystery of who killed Wes, the show is in need of a new big mystery, and it seems that Smits will play a part in the plot thickening.

While Jimmy Smits may be best known to the masses for his role as Senator Bail Organa in the Star Wars prequel trilogy and the Rogue One anthology film, he's a familiar face to TV fans as well. Smits got his big break into showbiz back in 1986 as Victor Sifuentes on L.A. Law, which he followed up with a regular role on NYPD Blue for several years. He played a congressman and then the president on The West Wing, then won memorable parts on shows like Dexter, Sons of Anarchy, and The Get Down.

Smits' most recent role was as John Donovan on the short-lived 24: Legacy. Thanks to his decades of work on the big and small screens, Smits has tackled just about every genre. We can be pretty positive that he can handle anything that How to Get Away With Murder throws at him.

How to Get Away With Murder will return to ABC on Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET in the fall. ABC renewed the entire TGIT block, so we'll continue to get Grey's Anatomy and Scandal on Thursdays as well.
