Legends of Tomorrow has amassed an exciting ensemble of superheroes on The CW, all of whom have different powers and different sensibilities. Sadly for longtime fans of the series, we now know that one of the original stars will depart the series in the not-too-distant future. Victor Garber will leave Legends of Tomorrow at some point in the current third season, which means that we'll soon be short one of the original Legends.

Victor Garber will exit Legends of Tomorrow during Season 3, although the precise episode has not yet been announced. Deadline reports that Garber will finish his run on the series shortly, and his exit has been planned out ahead of time, so we probably don't have to worry that Martin will be written off between episodes. He will evidently still be billed as a regular for the rest of the third season, although no plans seem to be in place for him to return after he makes his big departure.

News that Victor Garber is leaving Legends of Tomorrow is undoubtedly a bummer for many, but it might not come as a surprise to any who have been paying attention to Victor Garber's career. It was announced back in September that the Broadway veteran would return to his musical theater roots to star in the revival of Hello, Dolly! with Bernadette Peters. The duo will make their Hello, Dolly! debut in January; taking rehearsals and preparation into account, Garber can't be expected to stick around the Legends of Tomorrow set in Vancouver for much longer, and Broadway productions generally require 7-8 performances over six days a week.

A big question now is how Martin Stein will be written out of Legends of Tomorrow Season 3. The Season 3 premiere revealed that his daughter is pregnant and he plans on leaving the time-traveling life behind (at least temporarily) when the time comes for her to have her baby. Still, having a baby doesn't take a whole lot of time, especially when time travel is involved. Martin could theoretically return to the Legends after his grandchild is born. The show will have to come up with a reason why Martin does not return to the team.

Legends of Tomorrow could easily say that the birth of his grandchild changed Martin's priorities and made him want to live a more grounded life with his family in Central City, which would leave the door open for a possible return at some point and wouldn't necessarily require Legends to write Jax out of the action. The show could simply say that Jax and Martin were meeting up off-screen to keep from being killed by their Firestorm abilities, although that would mean that Jax couldn't use his powers with the Legends anymore. This wouldn't be the first time a CW superhero show had to change things up for Firestorm.

That said, if Legends of Tomorrow wants to keep Firestorm as a fully-powered member of the team, the show will have to either kill off Martin to find a new partner for Jax or change the rules for Firestorm. We'll have to wait and see. New episodes of Legends of Tomorrow air on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW. The next episode will feature a Titanic reunion between Victor Garber and Billy Zane, so it should definitely be worth watching.
