And the television universe they will inhabit does not share much in common with the drama that plagued "Manhattan's elite" on The CW series. They will be taking their reunion to space. The particulars surrounding the pair's on-screen meeting via the Seth MacFarlane series are scarce, but the good news is that it is happening.
Details on Leighton Meester's role are not currently available, according to EW. A new recruit to The Orville's second season cast, Jessica Szohr will be a series regular in the upcoming installment. Szohr will play a new crew member on the U.S.S. Orville. It may not be the full-blown Gossip Girl reunion some may be hoping for, replete with the actors being in character as their Gossip Girl alter egos. However, it will still be cool to see the former co-stars sharing the small screen again.
The two actresses co-starred on The CW drama for four seasons. While Leighton Meester was on the show until it came to an end in 2012 with Season 6, Jessica Szohr left the series at the end of Season 4. Meester's Blair Waldorf and Szohr's Vanessa Abrams tended to have a pretty adversarial relationship on Gossip Girl. That was often thanks in large part to the complicated proximity of their respective romantic relationships. As fans will likely recall, Blair and Vanessa both dated Dan Humphrey, Chuck Bass, and Nate Archibald.
It will be interesting to see if the actresses will portray a similar dynamic to the one Blair and Vanessa shared on Gossip Girl. A love triangle in space could be tricky. And one can hope Leighton Meester and Jessica Szohr will get to play a departure from that with their Orville characters.
