Shades of Blue is in the midst of its third and final season. And while she is content that the series' time has drawn to an end, Jennifer Lopez has some thoughts about the end of the show and her character, Harlee Santos. Lopez has a special place in her heart for Harlee that is likely to excite the police drama's fans. Reflecting on the character and what she has meant to her, Lopez said:

I really loved this character and could have done it another couple of years, easily. They would have. But it was time. This character of all the characters I've played is probably my favorite. And one that affected me the most. Permeated my soul. She was so complex and deep down a good person that was so playing outside the lines of morality and her own ethics and integrity and really struggling all the time. That struggle is something we all go through and it made me examine my own struggles and my own life and help me grow.

Jennifer Lopez has played a lot of characters during her career, so her sentiments are undoubtedly massive praise for Shades of Blue's Harlee. And from the sound of things, Harlee's impact will be felt by Lopez for a long time to come. Morally complex characters will do that. Based on her comments it also sounds as though the decision to end Shades of Blue was a mutual one rather than a one-way cancellation that left the show in a creative lurch, per her interview with IndieWire.

Despite her love for the character, Jennifer Lopez feels like Season 3 is the right time to bid Harlee farewell. In fact, Lopez says she could feel that time coming when she got to the third installment of the series. On how she feels wrapping up Shades of Blue, Lopez said:

It's time to move on and we always knew this would have a finite run. When we got to the third season, I was like, 'I think we're done with this.' And the way the season ends, I think this is it.

Jennifer Lopez added that she did three years on both Shades of Blue and with her Las Vegas residency, so maybe three is her lucky number. Hopefully, the series finale will bring closure to Shades of Blue's cast of characters and give the fans a fulfilling end to their three-season investment in the story. Fans knew going into Season 3 that it would be the crime drama's last. It is a piece of important knowledge that should help fans brace themselves for what's to come.

There are only two episodes left of the series, so it is coming down to the wire. While it is hard to let go of any show, it seems that fans can rest assured that the series will come to a well-realized end that concludes the story. The good news for Jennifer Lopez fans is that while she will not be seen in new episodes of Shades of Blue for much longer, they can still catch the multi-hyphenate entertainer as a judge on NBC's World of Dance.

As for Jennifer Lopez's Harlee, fans will not have to wait much longer to learn what her fate will be. The third and final season of Shades of Blue airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on NBC. The series finale will air August 19. For the new shows premiering before your fall favorites return, check out CinemaBlend's summer premiere guide.
