Vampire Diaries Vet Paul Wesley's New TV Role Adapts A Disney Princess Story

The Vampire Diaries Stefan Salvatore blood on his mouth Paul Wesley The CW

The Vampire Diaries alum Paul Wesley is ready for a tale as old as time. Or a date with a sleeping beauty. Or a glass slipper?

Paul Wesley is returning for Season 2 of the CBS All Access series Tell Me A Story. The show was co-created by Kevin Williamson, who also co-created The Vampire Diaries for The CW. Tell Me A Story re-imagines fairy tales as dark psychological thrillers.

Tell Me A Story Season 1 took on The Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood, and Hansel and Gretel. Season 2 is giving a dark twist to three princess stories that originated elsewhere but became iconic as Disney favorites -- Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella.

In Tell Me A Story Season 1, Paul Wesley played bartender/drug dealer Eddie, with a fairy tale tie to Three Little Pigs. In Season 2, Wesley will play Tucker.

According to Deadline, Tucker is a struggling novelist who spends his sleepless nights toiling away in a secluded cabin in the woods and his days trying to prove he’s good enough for his beautiful fiancée. But it’s all about to come crashing down as a dark secret threatens to destroy his world.

To TV Guide, that sounded like a hint to Beauty and the Beast. Maybe so. But I could also see it being Sleeping Beauty (the cabin in the woods, per the animated classic?) or Cinderella (toiling away?). We'll have to see. The dark secret secretly hints to something beastly, or it could be the kind of curse that befell Sleeping Beauty.

I'm excited to see how this turns out. Tell Me A Story Season 1 aired 10 episodes from Halloween day 2018 to January 2019. There's no word yet on the premiere date for Season 2.

Paul Wesley is definitely moving on from The Vampire Diaries, which ran from 2009 to 2017. He had a main role as Stefan Salvatore, and apparently he had a rough start with co-star Nina Dobrev (Elena Gilbert). They are friends now, though.

Paul Wesley is still part of The Vampire Diaries Universe family, and returned last year to direct an episode of the spinoff Legacies. He also recently shared a new photo with his former TVD brother Ian Somerhalder (Damon Salvatore), proving they are still close friends.

Fans would love for Paul Wesley to return to direct another episode in Legacies Season 2, which starts filming in late July for a premiere in October on The CW. Wesley even sounded possibly open to playing a monster-of-the-week on the show. But Stefan is gone, although clearly not forgotten, so he would not return in that role on screen.

Stay tuned for CBS All Access to reveal the premiere date for Tell Me A Story Season 2. Here's what we know so far about Legacies Season 2.

Gina Carbone

Gina grew up in Massachusetts and California in her own version of The Parent Trap. She went to three different middle schools, four high schools, and three universities -- including half a year in Perth, Western Australia. She currently lives in a small town in Maine, the kind Stephen King regularly sets terrible things in, so this may be the last you hear from her.
