Star Wars: Resistance's Donald Faison Talks Live-Action Hype Fazon

Hype Fazon Star Wars: Resistance

Star Wars: Resistance just dropped the trailer for its final season, and Kaz and all his friends (save one) are bringing the fight to the The First Order in what is teased to be an epic conclusion. We don't know exactly what's going to happen, but the trailer showed many of the beloved characters from Season 1, including Donald Faison's Rodian Hype Fazon in the mix.

CinemaBlend's TV editor Nick Venable spoke exclusively to Donald Faison during the TCA summer press tour about Star Wars: Resistance, and talked to the actor about his character. With Star Wars: Resistance ending, fans may not necessarily lose Fazon, as the actor is more than willing to appear in a live-action Star Wars film as his humanoid character.

Right, but I would totally mo-cap that character. I would, totally. Yeah, absolutely. Are you kidding me? I would learn how to speak Rodian to make sure I was able to do it. [Impersonates Greedo] Or whatever, some shit. Absolutely. Absolutely. Yes.

Donald Faison is more than willing to appear in live-action as Hype Fazon, to the point he's willing to learn Rodian. That's something we've yet to hear the character speak in Star Wars: Resistance, as most all characters on the Colossus speak Basic. Faison may be willing to play Hype, but is there any room in the Star Wars films or live-action television projects for him to appear?

It's certainly possible, as Donald Faison said his Star Wars: Resistance character's similar last name to his own is more than just a reference. It turns out Hype is part of a long line of Rodians who have been around in the world of Star Wars for some time.

Yeah, my name, too, with my name. [Huge smile.] Hype Fazon lives in the Star Wars universe for real, for real. There's a Fazon lineage somewhere in the Star Wars universe, and Hype's one of them. I wonder if would ever transform into a human lineage. Hype is a humanoid, but he's a Rodian, so can Rodians and humans mix? And if they do, what kind of kid does that turn into? And who takes the Fazon name? Skywalker's the first Skywalker ever. You know what I mean? Hype Fazon's not the first Fazon, but...[sing-song]...he is a Fazon, in the Star Wars universe.

Donald Faison may be willing to play Hype Fazon in live-action, but there's still a big question mark on whether or not he'll ever appear as the character in a live-action movie or series. Star Wars: Resistance Season 2 takes place during the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi and will lead right up to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Provided Hype survives the season, the Emergence star has a chance of appearing, although he may not get a chance anytime soon with Episode IX concluding the Skywalker Saga.

How Star Wars Resistance Was Impacted By Clone Wars And Rebels

With that said, Donald Faison has had a charmed experience in the Star Wars franchise so far, and got his role in Star Wars: Resistance after an encounter with Dave Filoni at the Star Wars: The Force Awakens premiere.

It was the best day ever. They way it came about was the best; it was the best. I ran into Dave Filoni at the Force Awakens premiere, and he was like, 'Black Stormtrooper?' I was like, 'Yeah, man.' It was a little animated thing that I did. And he was like, 'Dude, it's so awesome, for one. I have something for you. It's gonna be a long time from now until you hear from me, but just know there's something for you coming up. And I was, yes. You know, I thought I'd be in Rogue One, or The Last Jedi. He was like, 'No, no, no. I have this show, we're putting it out, and here's the character.' He showed me the character, and under the character, it said Hype Fazon. I was like, 'I'm playing the character, yeah, I get it, but you guys spelled my name wrong.' And he's like, 'No, no, no. That's the name of the character. The name of the character is Hype Fazon. It was like, you know, for a brief second, I had The Force. I was able to lift the table with my mind. It was great. It was a great, great, great day for me. But also, I've dreamed of being in Star Wars since I saw Star Wars. So the fact that there is a character with my last name is amazing.

It sounds like Donald Faison was ready to play a character in the Star Wars franchise for a while, and while he didn’t quite get the live-action role he initially thought he would, he’s got a shot of it happening in some way with Hype. Even if it were some sort of small cameo like the Star Wars: Rebels references in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, wouldn't that be great?
