One of Stephen King's most popular works is getting adapted again! The horror author’s Carrie will be getting the remake treatment. Back in 1976, King’s 1974 novel was adapted into the horror film directed by Brian De Palma and starring Sissy Spacek in the title role. Forty-three years later, FX is readying a new TV series based on Carrie with some changes in store.

According to Collider, FX’s Carrie will likely cast “a trans performer or an actress of color” to play the title role of Carrie White. This adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie is still in the very early stages, so it could be a while before fans find out who plays Carrie.

Given the hot streak that Stephen King’s properties are experiencing, it may not take a super long time before Carrie makes its casting announcement. You would think that FX will want to act fast on getting its Carrie up and running. That said, a premiere date was not mentioned for the series.

FX and MGM Television are reportedly in the early stages of working on the adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie for the cabler. In a sign of how soon it is in the process, there is currently not a script for the show. Nor any word on who is writing it.

The Carrie TV show is currently billed as a limited series, which indicates a one-and-done setup. Unless it ends up pulling a Big Little Lies and returns after its originally planned run.

News of FX’s TV series comes six years after the 2013 feature film remake of Carrie that was directed by Kimberly Peirce. Chloë Grace Moretz played the title role in that version with Poldark’s Gabriella Wilde cast as Sue Snell. As for Stephen King, this is yet another King-related project to make headlines this week.

Before news of FX’s Carrie series, an adaptation of Stephen King’s Jerusalem’s Lot landed a network and a major star. Oscar-winner, Adrien Brody, is set to take on the lead role of Captain Charles Boone. Meanwhile, HBO has an adaptation of King’s The Outsider coming in January 2020, starring Rogue One’s Ben Mendelsohn, Harriet's Cynthia Erivo, and Ozark’s Jason Bateman.

Stephen King has already given HBO’s take on The Outsider, massive praise. In related King TV developments, Hulu’s Castle Rock returned for its second season in 2019. If those shows and the Carrie remake are not enough Stephen King on your television screen, a CBS All Access adaptation of The Stand is on its way.

Forty-five years after Stephen King's Carrie was published in 1974, it remains a hot property. FX’s adaptation will mark the latest adaptation of the novel for the screen. There have been two feature films and a made-for-television movie. A film sequel to the original movie came out in 1999. Fast forward to 2019, and Carrie is returning!

A premiere date for the Carrie miniseries has not gotten set yet, so stay tuned. When it does arrive, it will do so on FX. While awaiting its release, you can check out this winter’s premieres.
