Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Ewan McGregor Reveals ‘The Most Beautiful Thing’ About Working On The Disney+ Show

Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)

Star Wars fans had been chomping at the bit for more news on Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi-centered series and, at during Disney’s Investor Day presentation this past week, they were treated to a few big updates. Not only did we learn the show’s official title, Obi-Wan Kenobi, but it also confirmed that Hayden Christensen will return to play Darth Vader on the show. In addition, investors were treated to a sizzle reel, which explained the show’s tone and feel, and it was during this segment that Ewan McGregor revealed the most beautiful part of the show, for him.

Ewan McGregor hasn’t been able to contain his excitement for Obi-Wan Kenobi, as he’s looking forward to once again donning his Jedi robes and continuing his beloved character’s story. But in the recent sizzle reel that fans didn’t get to see, the actor said (via THR) that there’s one element of the show that he finds most satisfying:

The most beautiful thing of all [about the series] is that it’s brought me back together with Hayden.

It would appear that Ewan McGregor is just happy to be sharing the screen with co-star Hayden Christensen. The two previously starred as master and apprentice in 2002’s Attack of the Clones and 2005’s Revenge of the Sith. Needless to say, it’s been a while since the pair has teamed up for a Star Wars project.

In the unreleased Obi-Wan footage, McGregor also mentioned that he’s excited about both him and Christensen getting an opportunity to take “another swing at each other” before the series is done. He’s, of course, referring to the fact that Obi-Wan and Anakin Skywalker previously came to blows during the third act of Revenge of the Sith, with the battle leading to Anakin’s disfigurement and ultimate transformation into Darth Vader.

It’s safe to say that fans are probably looking forward to the battle that Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy is touting as the “rematch of the century.” However, it does sir up a few questions in regard to how Vader will enter the story. The show takes place 10 years after Sith, and many assume it will find Obi-Wan in hiding on the desert planet of Tatooine. Should this be the premise, you have to wonder how the show might create a confrontation between the two characters.

During the events of A New Hope, viewers were led to believe that Vader and Kenobi’s encounter on the Death Star was the first time they’d seen each other since Mustafar. Surely Kennedy and director Deborah Chow have found a way to organically bring the Sith lord into the show without breaking continuity.

But whatever the case, it’s honestly just cool knowing both Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen will be back in the world of Star Wars. There’s no telling how Kenobi and Vader’s duel will pan out this time but, hopefully for Vader, it doesn’t end as badly as the first one.

Disney+’s Obi-Wan Kenobi is set to begin shooting in early 2021.
