Larry King (2020)

The journalism world lost a true icon this past weekend. Larry King, the legendary CNN talk show host, passed away at the age of 87. While no cause of death was officially stated, King had been hospitalized with COVID-19 weeks before his passing. King’s legacy is far-reaching, and he impacted quite a few people, including several notable media figures. And in the wake of his passing, Ryan Seacrest, Jimmy Kimmel and others have taken the time to pay tribute to the late pop culture icon.

Ryan Seacrest is one of the many news personalities who looked up to Larry King After hearing news of King’s death, the host took to Twitter to share a short and sweet message:

Larry King was a consistent presence in the world of news, even aside from his noted work with CNN and, as a result, it felt like he was everywhere. With this, it’s natural that many somehow have a personal connection and memory of his work. Jimmy Kimmel shared such a moment in a sweet social media post:

One of the things King was best known for was his unique conversational style. When chatting with people, he managed to keep them at ease by remaining personable. The late host’s warm personality appeared to remain with him off camera based on Craig Ferguson’s funny and sweet message:

Whether a person was a celebrity or a host, just about anyone who sat across from Larry King couldn’t help but be taken in by his interviewing style and his anecdotes. Oprah Winfrey, who is of course an iconic host in her own right, paid tribute to King and expressed gratitude for the memories she has of him:

Of course, in the midst of all the tributes to Larry King, there were also a number of them that came from his former colleagues at CNN. One of these came from veteran journalist Dan Rather, who had nothing but praise for his late friend:

Many would agree that Larry King was certainly a trooper over the course of his 63-year career. In addition to dealing with the typical challenges that come with being a journalist, he also faced personal issues but powered through them with his will and great humor. His humor, in particular, helped to make for some very memorable interview moments that will now be further immortalized in the history of broadcast news.

Without a doubt, Larry King leaves a significant void in the world of news media, and his honest and no-nonsense presence is something that will be surely missed. We may not be getting any new interviews from him, but we can be thankful that we have so many we can revisit to receive the feel of his warm and friendly presence.

We here at CinemaBlend continue to extend our thoughts to the family and loved ones of Larry King during this difficult time.
