Mayim Bialik followed up on the massive success that The Big Bang Theory earned by reteaming with Jim Parsons to head up her own new TV comedy with Fox's Call Me Kat. But just because the actress' career keeps moving towards the future, that doesn't mean she can't look back to the past to think about revisiting other big TV projects. To that end, Bialik revealed that she has been earnestly attempting to make a Blossom revival happen with creator Don Reo. The big problem? Their initial attempts apparently aren't having much luck drawing interest.

Blossom enjoyed a scandal-free five-season run that aired from 1991-1995 and turned young stars like Mayim Bialik, Joey Lawrence and Jenna Von Oy into magazine cover regulars as their careers continued launching. So it stands to reason that a Blossom reunion might be a worthwhile idea for NBC, its streaming service Peacock or some other platform. Especially in 2021, where Criminal Minds is already being resurrected a little over a year after it first ended. But here's what Bialik told EW about the process:

I guess I'm allowed to talk about this now, Don Reo and I do have a limited reboot that we would like to do. We've had a lot of trouble getting our network onboard. . . . It's been really fascinating. At a certain point, I may just start a grassroots fan campaign to see if we can do it because we absolutely would love people to see where these characters are.

It's perhaps unexpected that Mayim Bialik would be met with anything but open-armed acceptance at this point in her career, and for an already established sitcom, no less. NBCUniversal definitely hasn't been hesitant about revisiting past hits with former stars, having produced timely revivals for Saved by the Bell and Soleil Moon Frye's Punky Brewster in the past year or two, and work is currently ongoing for that Battlestar Galactica revival, the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air dramatic reboot, and another Law & Order spinoff. The studio clearly has few qualms with sticking to familiar material.

At this point, it's not clear exactly why network execs aren't too interested in bringing Blossom back at the moment. But it sounds like Mayim Bialik is hoping that letting fans know about her and creator Don Reo's attempts will help bring more attention to the project. Here's what else she had to say:

[Reo] and I talked about it and we kind of decided after literally years of trying to work on this that I would probably just say it out loud. We do have a well-formed idea and we would love someone to let us do it.

Obviously, Blossom isn't the kind of show where a revival is desperately needed, since it ended without much controversy and didn't have any lingering cliffhangers that need to be addressed. Rather, I think a Blossom revival would be another great way to bring modern relevance to a 90s TV staple, leaning closer to the Fuller House end of the spectrum than the Murphy Brown end. So if seeing Blossom again is something that excites you, post about it constantly!

Thankfully for Blossom fans who want to relive those funky hat glory days, the comedy is now available to stream on Hulu.
