When fans said goodbye to Modern Family in 2020 after nearly 11 years, it was only a matter of time before there were discussions of a spinoff. After having spent so much time with them, fans are probably eager to see at least some of the characters again. Series star Jesse Tyler Ferguson is addressing some of those rumors of another show featuring Mitchell.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who played Mitchell Pritchett on the beloved ABC comedy, spoke to E!’s Daily Pop about the potential of a spinoff:

Nothing is official. I have not been asked to do anything yet, so you know, it's being talked about, but I haven't heard anything official.

When production on the final season started in 2019, ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke said she brought up the idea of a spinoff to Modern Family co-creator Steven Levitan a lot, and every time she got "smacked down." She mentioned that with production on the final season starting, she wanted them to focus on that and nothing else. While other co-creator Christopher Lloyd addressed a spinoff possibility a year before that, he didn’t necessarily say it was off the table, just that they had time. But now that it’s been almost a year since the end of Modern Family, now might be the perfect time.

Much of the Modern Family cast is currently busy with other projects including, though. Ty Burrell (Phil Dunphy) regularly provides his voice to the Fox animated series Duncanville, Julie Bowen (Claire Dunphy) is attached to CBS' multi-camera comedy Raised By Wolves, Sofia Vergara (Gloria Delgado-Pritchett) is a judge on America’s Got Talent, Jesse Tyler Ferguson is the new host of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, and Eric Stonestreet (Cameron Tucker) temporarily joined Vergara on America’s Got Talent as one post-Modern Family gig.

Modern Family ran on ABC for 11 seasons and followed the lives of three diverse family set-ups in suburban Los Angeles, linked by patriarch Jay Pritchett. The series sustained its popularity over the years, winning a whopping 22 Emmy Awards, three Critics’ Choice Awards, five Screen Actors Guild Awards and many more.

When news broke that the series would be ending, it left many fans and much of the cast emotional. The thought of a spinoff series would likely delight many fans and it would be a way to stay connected to these characters even if they’re not all there. While there isn’t any word yet on a spinoff, fans are able to relive their favorite Modern Family moments on both Peacock and Hulu, thanks to a new deal between Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution.
