I think many people would agree that the lives of celebrities seem baffling to most of us, at best. Even if said famous person is very active on social media, or, say, has a reality show, there will still be a lot about that person's life that regular folks just wouldn't be able to understand or imagine, even. Well, it turns out that something which is pretty basic for the happiness of most of us has been a serious oversight in regards to Keeping Up with the Kardashians star, Khloé Kardashian, for the entirety of her time as a famous person. We've all, apparently, been saying her name wrong, and now we have proof.
Here's what happened. Bravo-meister Andy Cohen appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon recently, to talk about his new series For Real: The Story of Reality TV. For the show, Cohen spoke with several people from a wide variety of reality shows to discuss their experiences of having their real lives documented for public enjoyment / scrutiny. It would be difficult to do such a show and not talk to the Kardashian clan, seeing as how theirs is one of the most popular and long-running reality shows around, so that's what Cohen did.
But, when asking about talking to the famous family, Fallon noted that Cohen told him we've all been saying Khloé Kardashian's name incorrectly for almost 15 years. Take a look at the clip, and make sure you have something around to soothe your soul at the 3:08 mark, because that's when the name weirdness hits the fan!
So...Hold on. It's not Chloe, it's actually Khlo-AAAAAA? I'm confused, but also, not that confused. As Andy Cohen told a shocked Jimmy Fallon and a similarly surprised audience, who giggled uncomfortably through his reveal, there is, as we've all seen, an accent over the "e" at the end of Ms. Kardashian's name. So, the true pronunciation doesn't amaze me that much, but more how we've been allowed to say her name wrong for 20 seasons of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Has this all been an elaborate prank?!
If you keep watching beyond Cohen's initial revelation, though, you'll actually see that this madness has been going on for far longer than the mega-length of the famous brood's reality series. Cohen continued, adding that when he met with members of the family, he addressed the tallest female Khardashian as "Khlo-AAAAAA" and everyone thought he'd gone nutter butters. Except, that is, for mom Kris Jenner, who confirmed his delivery of her third eldest child's name.
I really don't understand this at all. Khlo-AAAAAA is 36 years old. Did Kris Jenner really never tell her, or her many siblings, when they were kids, how to properly say Khlo-AAAAAA's name? Who does that? Or, and this is what I'm hoping the case is, did she try to instruct everyone on the correct pronunciation, but it just didn't stick because kids are weird and don't know how to do things right? Also, did Khlo-AAAAAA not even remember at this point that the accent on the end of her name actually means something, or does she just not care?
Most people like to be called the right thing when people refer to us. I, for one, have had my name mispronounced in dozens of odd ways since I was a child, and as long as the person who made the mistake hasn't said something truly bonkers right before or after that misstep, I always correct them. We found out not that long ago that we've largely been saying Rihanna and Chrissy Teigen's names wrong, too, without them bothering to set us straight, so, maybe this is just a "I'm famous and rich and gorgeous. Close enough, honey," thing that will be impossible for us normals to understand.
Oh, well. Happy very early birthday to you, Khloé Kardashian! Enjoy the newfound use of your accent!
