After Taking A Bit Of A Break To Have A Baby, Game Of Thrones' Sophie Turner Will Be Returning To HBO

Sansa Stark is seated on Game of Thrones

HBO has seen a number of A-list stars feature in its shows over the years, from The SopranosJames Gandolfini and True Blood’s Anna Paquin to Barry’s Bill Hader and Euphoria’s Zendaya. Of course, the critically acclaimed (and somewhat polarizing) Game of Thrones also produced a number of key stars, including Sophie Turner. It goes without saying that her role as Sansa Stark made her into a pop culture icon. While the actress has taken a bit of a break since having a baby with husband Joe Jonas mid-pandemic, the actress is now back to work and is set to make a return to HBO!

Sophie Turner will be heading to HBO Max for the limited series The Staircase, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series is based on the true story of novelist Michael Peterson, his North Carolina family and the mysterious death of his wife. Sophie Turner will reportedly play the role of Margaret Ratliff, who is one of Peterson’s adopted daughters.

In joining HBO Max’s The Staircase, Sophie Turner will be acting alongside a talented cast. The ensemble includes Colin Firth, Toni Collette, Rosemarie DeWitt, Juliette Binoche and Parker Posey. The limited series is being written and executive produced by The Devil All the Time’s Antoni Campos and American Crime Story’s Maggie Cohn.

Interest in the story of Michael Peterson has been present within the public for years now. The Peterson case was previously covered in the 2004 French documentary The Staircase. While the HBO Max series represents another recounting of the events, the show also gives the platform yet another true crime production. At present, the streamer is also developing Love and Death, an Elizabeth Olsen-led limited series that centers on the true story of Candy Montgomery, who murdered her neighbor in her 1980s Texas town.

Sophie Turner couldn’t have lined up a better gig for her return to HBO, and it’ll be interesting to see what she brings to the role. The 25-year-old actress has kept busy since leaving the continent of Westeros. Turner starred on the Quibi thriller series Survive and has also filmed the upcoming movie Broken Soldier.

Of course, the star also seems to have taken plenty of downtime to be with her new family and, even during the pandemic, she’s done some fun stuff. This includes being a part of a Princess Bride “remake” and listening to Taylor Swift songs that are about her husband.

The Staircase already seemed to have the necessary creative pieces through its cast and crew, but the addition of Sophie Turner only adds to its credibility. It remains to be seen how Turner will approach her new role, but it can definitely be said that it will be a far cry from the strategic noblewoman she played for so many years.
