Star Wars fans are going to have to wait a little while for Season 3 of Disney+’s The Mandalorian but, luckily, they’ll have another show to look forward to this year in the form of spinoff series The Book of Boba Fett. The show will pick up with the titular bounty hunter following his explosive return during the second season of Mandalorian. As you would expect, concrete details on the series are being kept on a need-to-know basis, though series lead Temuera Morrison has blessed us with a few tidbits regarding the inclusion of Fett’s history.

Boba Fett is one of Star Wars’ coolest characters, but he’s also one of the franchise’s most enigmatic characters. So it’s understandable that The Book of Boba Fett would want to spend some time filling in the blanks of his history. The real question is: how much of Fett’s story might the show explore? Although Temuera Morrison is remaining relatively tight-lipped about the highly anticipated series, he did tease what we can expect thow show to cover when it comes to the character’s backstory:

Well, we can’t say too much, but we’re going to see his past and where he’s been since The Empire Strikes Back. Somebody pointed out he’s been kind of stuck in this one place, and now’s the time to actually go back in time and check out his journey and find out more about him.

Temuera Morrison’s comments to Rotten Tomatoes indicate that The Book of Boba Fett is going to dive deep into the history of its protagonist. The actor makes a good point in that the character has been somewhat stuck in one place for a while. When Fett made his live-action Star Wars debut in 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back (after he was first seen in an animated segment of The Holiday Special), he quickly became the cool-looking warrior, but that’s about all he was in the decades that followed.

It wasn’t until 2002’s Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones that fans learned the origins of Boba Fett, mainly that he was the clone Jango Fett, who raised Boba as his son. There are, however, still plenty of other points in his life that could be explored, and it’s likely that fans are eager to learn how exactly the bounty hunter escaped the clutches of the Sarlaac.

Temuera Morrison seems to be relishing the opportunity to play Boba Fett again, and his return in The Mandalorian did not disappoint. The character was a key ally to Din Djarin, and no Imperials were left standing when Fett was finished on the battlefield. You can watch his Mandalorian return by streaming the show on Disney+, which you can sign up for using this link.

After The Mandalorian, there’s plenty of room for Temuera Morrison’s Boba Fett to grow. We can only hope that Morrison, producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, and director Robert Rodriguez can add some layers to the character, as he continues his journey alongside Ming-Na Wen’s Fennec Shand.

The Book of Boba Fett is slated to premiere on Disney+ this December.
