ABC recently announced that beginning Saturday, September 23rd, they would be offering some of their popular shows to be viewed on their website. Similar to what CBS and other networks are doing, ABC will post the ad-supported episodes the day after the episode airs on television.

Veteran shows like ‘Lost’, ‘Desperate Housewives’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ as well as new shows like ‘Six Degrees’, ‘Ugly Betty’ and ‘The Nine’ are among the programs that will be available streaming from ABC.com. Some of the older shows have been available for purchase to download on iTunes but the website will offer the programs for free. The difference is that instead of downloading the show, viewers will watch it directly on the website and rather than having to pay a dollar, they will have to sit through brief commercials.

Watching TV shows online has become a huge trend. It gives viewers the opportunity to get caught up on a new show or to rewatch episodes of their favorite shows. The downside of streaming video is that it can sometimes be difficult to view depending on browser capabilities and bandwidth speed. The upside is that rather than having to pay a dollar and take up space on your hard drive, you can watch a show any time you want for free as long as you’re ok with commercials.
