It's disappointing that things didn't work out for Shawn Ryan's Last Resort. The ABC submarine drama was cancelled last fall and has since finished up its 13-episode run, leaving its cast free to pursue other projects. For Andre Braugher, it looks like the future may include a return to comedy. The Men of a Certain Age star has signed on for a Fox comedy pilot, which will also put him back in a uniform.

Among the projects in development at Fox is a comedy pilot from Parks and Recreation's Mike Schur and Dan Goor. The comedy will star Saturday Night Live's Andy Samberg and will take place in a New York City police precinct on the outskirts of the city. TVLine says Andre Braugher has been cast to play Captain Holt, a 30-year veteran of the NYPD. He's finally gotten his own command and he refuses to let anyone mess it up. That includes Samberg's character Jake.

Braugher's probably a bit better known for dramas, with House, M.D., Law & Order: SVU and the miniseries The Andromeda Strain among his TV credits in recent years, not to mention Last Resort. But he was also among the stars of TNT's Men of a Certain Age, so we know he's capable of comedy. As frustrated as I am that things didn't work out for Last Resort, it's good to hear Braugher's landed a new role already. The untitled comedy already had a lot going for it, between Schur and Samberg's involvement. Braugher's casting is one more reason to hope this one makes it to series.
