Andy Samberg To Star In Michael Schur And Dan Goor's Fox Comedy Pilot

Since his departure from NBC's long running sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live, Andy Samberg has moved on to star in the BBC Three sitcom Cuckoo. We may be seeing him back on the small screen stateside soon enough, assuming things go well for Michael Schur and Dan Goor's untitled comedy pilot, in which Samberg is now set to star.
This summer, we learned that Fox picked up Schur and Goor's comedy project with a put-pilot commitment. With the Parks and Recreations writers behind the single-camera project, this one already had two great things going for it. Now we can add a third, as Deadline is reporting the Samberg is set to play the lead.
The comedy is set in a police precinct at the very edge of New York City and follows "a diverse group of detectives." Samberg has been tapped to play the lead detective, and from the sound of it, he was their top choice to play the part. Given his successful run on SNL, that's not surprising, but it certainly is good new. He'll also serve as a producer.
This could be a great opportunity for Samberg, especially when we consider how well things have worked out for Amy Poehler and Parks and Recreation. Schur's current NBC series also happens to star a former SNL player. So Samberg may be following in the right footsteps with this project. We'll have to see if it makes it past the pilot stage, and who is brought in to join Samberg at the precinct.
