Ben And Kate's Geoff Stults To Star In Comedy Pilot Enlisted
For all his charm and good looks, Geoff Stults hasn't had much luck with TV shows that stick in recent years. Since October Road's two-season run a handful of years back, the actor has jumped from project to project, and things just haven't worked out, with Happy Town and The Finder both cancelled. More recently, he recurred in Fox's promising but short-lived new comedy Ben and Kate. Whether or not Stults' character Will would have found a way back into Kate's life is as much a mystery as the fate of "Rail Mail." Fox called it quits on the series, which left the cast available to pursue other projects. For Stults, it's a starring role in the Fox/20th TV comedy Enlisted.
The actor is set to play the lead in the single-camera comedy pilot from Cougar Town co-creator Kevin Biegel. Much in the way Ben and Kate was inspired by a real-life sibling relationship (Dana Fox and her brother), a similar concept applies to Enlisted, which is based on Biegel's relationship with his own siblings and follows three brothers who work together in the army. The comedy centers on Stults' character Sgt. Pete Waits who is stationed at a military base in Florida, following a tour in Afghanistan, and tasked with leading the squad that includes his dysfunctional brothers.
The fact that this is yet another Fox project for Stults (following The Finder and Ben and Kate) isn't especially surprising. Deadline mentions that Stults signed a deal with 20th TV in September. Stults is funny and charismatic enough to handle a lead role in a comedy or drama. I suppose it's just a matter of finding a project that manages to stick around.
