CBS Creates Failed Sitcom Digital Afterlife

In the old days if a show got cancelled or just never aired chances are it was gone forever, or at best cast into syndication purgatory on a smaller network. Oh, the humanity! But those days may be gone for good at least for CBS. Following in the wake of super-popular video dump sites like YouTube, the eye is giving hope and salvation to sitcoms that didn’t quite get past the pearly gates with CBS Interactive.

CBS CEO Les Moonves announced the hiring of Quincy Smith to oversee Innertube, CBS Sportsline.com, CBSNews.com, as well as CBS.com. Smith earned his pedigree in digital management working for Allen & Company, where he was involved in many new-media transactions.

According to TV.com, Moonves said, "Quincy Smith is one of the smartest, most forward thinking executives working in new media today."

So far, CBS has plans to air a previously un-aired pilot for a show called The Papdits about a transplanted family from Kashmir making their way across the US in an RV somewhat Borat-style.

As the TV industry undergoes massive change due to this whole new internet thingy, Moonves hopes to stay above the curve. He says, "This announcement is particularly significant because it reflects our belief that the future of media lies increasingly in the interactive realm."
