NBC has been picking up early shows for the 2013-2014 season for a while now, nabbing The Secret Lives of Husbands and Wives to promote year-round pilot greenlighting. Not to be beaten, CBS has focused its eye on some new programming, as well.

CBS’ first pilot order of the 2013-2014 season is Ex-Men, a comedy following a young man living in a rental unit and acquiring both helpful and sometimes unwanted advice from older dudes living in nearby units. According to Deadline, Ex-Men was conceived several years ago, and with the idea for the show already cemented, it was an easy pick-up for CBS to begin its greenlights for next season.

Ex-Men has not gone about casting yet, but the pilot was written by CBS man Rob Greenberg, who has spent several years producing on a little CBS comedy called How I Met Your Mother. It's good to know they've got a man with some comedy experience on board, but with little knowledge about the cast and plotline of the Ex-Men pilot, it is hard to tell if the show will be a home run. Either way, huzzah to Greenberg’s premise for kicking off pilot season on the network. TV Blend will keep you posted when CBS begins adding more pilots to the lineup in the coming weeks.
