Check Out Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Newest Hero

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. hasn’t spent much time focusing on its own team of superheroes, the Secret Warriors, this season, but when the show returns next year following its midseason hiatus, that will change. We’ve met a few of the potential candidates already in Season 3, and now another one of its members from the comics will be making her MCU debut next year: Yo-Yo Rodriguez, a.k.a. Slingshot, who will be played by Natalia Cordova-Buckley.

“Agents

There’s no word yet on when she’ll appear, though Point of Geeks did say she’ll be filming her scenes in January. So her debut will likely be sometime in early spring right when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns to its timeslot after Agent Carter Season 2 finishes.

In the comics, Rodriguez was recruited onto the Secret Warriors by Daisy Johnson and Nick Fury to combat the Skulls and, later, other threats. She is able to run at superhuman speeds, but unlike other comic book speedsters like Flash and Quicksilver, she must eventually return to the point where she began running. Hence, the codename Slingshot. No doubt that limitation will provide some interesting challenges for the character whenever she starts operating in the field.

Agents of SHIELD Slingshot

With everything going on with the ATCU, HYDRA and Inhuman killer Lash, the Secret Warriors have taken a backseat while the spy organization deals with these problems. The team was first alluded to in the Season 2 finale when Coulson and Daisy Johnson discussed putting a team of superpowered individuals together under the Caterpillars program to protect Earth. We know that Daisy, a.k.a. Quake, will lead the team, but the lineup hasn’t been announced yet, though it will probably be comprised mostly of Inhumans. Aside from Slingshot, it’s likely we’ll see Daisy’s friend Lincoln Campbell added on, as well as maybe Joey Gutierrez, who can manipulate metal and has been hanging out with S.H.I.E.L.D. since the Season 3 premiere.

Cordova-Buckley is primarily known for her Spanish-language work, starring in films like Ventanas al mar and Yerbamala, and TV shows like Los Minondo and Bienes raíces. U.S. audiences may recognize her from the Kevin Costner-led sports drama McFarland, USA, which came out earlier this year.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.
