Hola, My Name Is MTV Tr3s

As of September 25th, MTV Espanol will be no more. In its place will be MTV Tr3s, a bilingual music channel aimed at the American Latino audience. The network is hoping to reach 55 percent of U.S. Latino households by the end of the year. If the network reaches their goal they will reach 2.4 million more households than the current MTV Espanol does.

How will MTV Tr3s differ from MTV Espanol? At present, the Spanish-speaking version of MTV is just that; MTV in Spanish. There’s no on air talent or original programming. MTV Tr3s will be on the air 24 hours a day as opposed to the eight hours that MTV Espanol aired. According to Reuters, the channel will have its own VJs including comedian Carlos Santos who will be hosting MiTRL, the channel’s very own version of the hugely popular ‘Total Request Live’.

In addition to MiTRL, there will be ‘Quiero Mis Quinces’, a show similar to ‘My Super Sweet 16’ except rather than sweet 16 parties, it will center on girls having lavish quinceanera parties. The ‘Pimp My Ride’ alternative will be called ‘Pimpeando’. The shows will obviously be spoken in Spanish for the most part but will have English subtitles for those of us interested in the shows but lacking in bilingual abilities.

‘Hola My Name Is MTV Tr3s’, an introductory show, will air on the new channel, MTV and MTV2 the week that the channel launches. The show will feature interviews with Julieta Venegas, the Kumbia Kings and Pitbull.
