How Daredevil Season 2 Will Introduce The Punisher, According To New Footage

When Daredevil Season 2 premieres next year, Matt Murdock won’t be the only vigilante patrolling the streets of Hell’s Kitchen. It was announced during the summer that Fury actor Jon Bernthal will play Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher, in the Netflix series as his crimefighting competitor. As comic book fans know, Punisher loves to murder bad guys, so when Daredevil introduces him, they’ll be making it quite clear that he doesn’t show mercy to criminal scum on his one-man crusade, as seen in new footage.
During the Comic Con Experience panel in Brazil last week, Netflix reportedly aired a teaser for Daredevil Season 2 during the online platform’s two-hour panel According to a fan’s description on Tumblr, the footage begins with Matt, still wearing his crimson Daredevil armor introduced in the Season 1 finale, walking into what looks like a dimly-lit refrigerated room with slices of meat hanging from the ceiling. As Matt walks quietly through the room trying to hear something, the camera pans out and we see that there are also humans that have been hanged like the meat. He investigates the corpses, but eventually finds someone still alive. Taking the injured man off the hook, Matt asks why they did this to him, and the man responds, “They? It was just a guy.”
The scene then shifts to nighttime atop a rooftop, with a man aiming a sniper rifle at someone either in or near a taxi. No surprise, the man is Frank Castle, but before he can pull the trigger, Daredevil shows up and kicks the gun out of his hand while jumping over him. The two vigilantes then begin fighting, but just as things start to heat up, the teaser enda with only the Daredevil logo and “2016-Netflix.”
Unlike Matt, who has tried not to take lives as Daredevil, Frank has no qualms about killing criminals on his mission. In fact, he relishes in causing them pain, which is why him hanging bodies like meat is entirely plausible. Since it doesn’t sound like Matt knew ahead of time that Punisher was the one who butchered these men, presumably the above moments will take place early into Season 2. While it hasn’t been confirmed whether Punisher is Daredevil’s main antagonist this time around, the battle between the two vigilantes so far looks like it will be the main conflict throughout the season due to their different methods of dealing with crime. So even though Punisher also wants to see Hell’s Kitchen safe, Matt will do whatever it takes to stop him so that more bodies don’t drop.
Daredevil Season 2 will air sometime in 2016 on Netflix, and in addition to Punisher, it will also see the debuts of Elodie Yung as Elektra and Stephen Rider as Blake Tower.
