Netflix Launches Just For Kids Streaming Feature

In another Netflix expansion announcement, THR has reported on the streaming giant's new "Just for Kids" experience. The "Just for Kids" experience is currently available as a tab on the Netflix homepage. From here users can find content aimed at children under the age of thirteen, including both movies and television programs. Netflix has also presented the experience specifically for children. For example, content involving popular characters such as Big Bird or SpongeBob can be accessed from icons of those characters. Films and shows can also be found with kid-specific genres, such as superheroes, princesses, and dinosaurs.

Netflix was pushed into action by review information obtained from Common Sense Media, a non-profit that teamed up with them on the project. Among other things, the firm brought to the attention of Netflix that nearly half of their US and Canadian subscribers had used the instant stream feature to play at least 2 kids shows or movies in only the last ninety days. Netflix is already looking to grow the service as well. "Just for Kids" is available on the Netflix site but will be deployed for devices such as iPads and game consoles through the next year.

Clearly "Just for Kids" has been released with an already large user base waiting for it and I expect we'll see it expanding and evolving a lot in the near future, especially if it can attract nonsubscribers to the service for their children. Hopefully "Just for Kids" will make it easier for parents across the US and Canada to share their favorite classics with their kids.
