If you're a TNT viewer, you can expect next summer to look a lot like this summer as the cable channel has officially renewed three of its summer shows. Rizzoli & Isles, Major Crimes and Perception will all be back with new seasons next summer - that is, after they wrap up their current seasons. They join Falling Skies among TNT's recent renewals.
We learned last month that TNT was set to move forward with a fourth season of their alien war drama Falling Skies. Rizzoli & Isles, which stars Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander and centers on the friendship and working relationship of a police detective and a medical examiner, will return next summer for its fifth season at TNT. As the network notes, the drama has averaged 8.4 million viewers in Live +7 delivery, which is an increase of 6% over last year.
And then there's Major Crimes, a crime-drama that stars Mary McDonnell (Battlestar Galactica), G.W. Bailey and Tony Denison and focuses the attempts of law enforcers and prosecutors to work together to try to secure a conviction. TNT says the show is bringing in more than 6.7 million viewers in Live +7 delivery and is one of basic cable's Top 10 summer dramas among adults 25-54 (2.1 million). So a renewal on that one seems more than warranted, I'd say, and fans are sure to appreciate that news.
Finally, Perception will be back for a third season. The series stars Eric McCromack as Dr. Daniel Pierce, a man who's especially adept at analyzing people's behavior and how people's minds work. He also happens to suffer from paranoid schizophrenia. Among the cast are Rachael Leigh Cook, Arjay Smith, Kelly Rowan and LeVar Burton. The series has been averaging 5.6 million viewers in Live +7 delivery, with 2 million adults 25-54 and 1.5 million adults 18-49 in Live +7 delivery. The series will wrap up for the summer August 27 and TNT says it'll be back early next year (2014) for the rest of its second season. Rizzoli & Isles and Perception are also slated to resume their current seasons early next year.
In addition to the above mentioned returning shows, TNT is keeping busy in developing new projects for their viewers, including Frank Darabont's upcoming Mob City later this year, and the debuts of The Last Ship (starring Eric Dane from Grey's Anatomy and executive produced by Michale Bad) and Legends (executive produced by Howard Gordon and starring Sean Bean), both of which are slated to premiere next summer. And in addition to the summer series that are resuming in 2014, fans also have the return of Dallas to look forward to this winter.
Between returning shows and the new projects in the works at TNT, viewers will have plenty to look forward to next year.
