See This Star Wars Legend Return To The Franchise

The Disney XD original series, Star Wars Rebels, is adding an appearance from yet another character from the original Star Wars trilogy. This time Star Wars Rebels fans can expect to see an appearance from the one and only Lando Calrissian. While Billy Dee Williams confirmed his appearance on the show back in June, we have finally gotten our first glimpses of Lando on the show. Take a look:

Star Wars 7 news reports that the images first popped up on Twitter from various Star Wars fans. But luckily, the Star Wars Youtube account also put together this awesome video of Williams' work on Star Wars Rebels. Check it out.

Williams makes it no secret that he loved his time as Lando Calrissian, and he would be keen to reprise the role at any time, so it isn’t surprising that the writers of Star Wars Rebels tapped Williams to appear in the universe. Maybe Williams reprising his role as Lando for Rebels will inspire JJ Abrams and the writers of the new Star Wars films to bring Lando back as well. We can hope, right?

The brains behind Star Wars Rebels have done a pretty stellar job keeping the show in line with the Star Wars timeline (the drama takes place between Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars IV: A New Hope), and making it a legitimate, accurate part of the Star Wars canon. They have also been very keen to incorporate some well-loved characters on the show. Lando is the third classic character to show up on Star Wars Rebels, as Darth Vader and Yoda (or Yoda’s voice, anyway) have already made appearances on the animated series. The show has certainly struck a chord with fans. Star Wars Rebels was renewed for a second season by Disney XD before many people even had the chance to watch the show’s premiere.

Because Rebels is set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, two Jedi Knights are on the run from the Empire. The show follows the adventures of two Jedi, Kanan Jarus (voiced by Freddie Prinze Jr.) and Ezra Bridger (voiced by Taylor Gray). Kanan and Ezra travel around the universe on their ship, The Ghost, with a crew of others who are against the Empire. Kanan and Ezra and the rest of the crew are on the run from the Galactic Empire and a new villain called The Inquisitor who is out to find and kill any remaining Jedis in the universe.

Star Wars Rebels airs on Monday nights on Disney XD at 9/8c, and Lando Calrissian will appear on the show on January 19. “Idiot’s Array” is already available to watch with the Watch Disney XD app.
