TV Recap: Fringe - The Dreamscape

This week’s Fringe promised answers. Instead, we ended up with more questions and a disturbing image of Walter. At least we ended up back at Massive Dynamic to solve the murder of one of their rising stars. He supposedly jumped to his death but according to Dunham and co., it was murder. Plain and simple. Well, never simple.

The man, Mark has tiny little cuts all over his body that have nothing to do with the fall. The strangest part about them is that they seem to originate from inside his body, not outside. Thank god Walter’s a genius and knows every toxin known to man. If he wasn’t, they might have missed the super high dose of a certain drug that causes hallucinations and paranoia. Also a good thing that Dunham is still linked to John Scott so he was able to send her an email with an address that leads to the discovery of toads that contain the same toxin as the guy. Basically, it means that the guy was literally scared to death. He saw butterflies attacking him (these butterflies had razor sharp wings) and didn’t mean to jump out of the window. So now we know how he died. But who gave him the deadly dose? And why? More importantly, how is Dunham receiving emails from a dead guy?

Dunham decides to go back into the tank to try and recover all of Agent Scott’s memories. The first memory she sees is their first date. She sits down at the table with Scott after the memory version of her went to the restroom. Walter assured her time and again that Scott couldn’t interact with her because he’s a memory but then when she mentioned Mark’s name, he stared right at her. Creepy and does that mean that Walter can be wrong? The second memory was more telling. Scott was talking to three men, one of which was Mark. It seemed like three of them were trying to convince Mark to work with them. After they succeeded and he left with one of the guys, Scott turned to the other one and stabbed him. Wow. We really didn’t know Agent Scott before.

At least Dunham has a little luck. After all, there’s one guy still alive from the foursome. She and Charlie track him down and he says it all leads back to Massive Dynamic. Before he can really get anything out, though, he dies. Of course not of natural causes. He sees Agent Scott in his room cutting his throat so his throat slits open. Let’s hope that toxin never becomes a real threat because how would you beat your own mind?

While Walter and Dunham are trying to take down killers, Peter’s trying to take down his own enemies. We met a girlfriend of his who is being beaten by her boyfriend, who is also one of the guys looking for Peter. He ends up beating the guy and threatening to kill him which exposed to all of his enemies that he’s back in town. I wonder if they’ll run into that again or if they’ll vanish like Dunham’s long lost father.

Dunham, Walter, and Peter are back to episode one. They’re looking at Massive Dynamic and hoping Agent Scott can lead them to the answer. Oh, by the way, Dunham totally received an email from Scott reading, “I saw you in the restaurant.” Seriously? Does she write these to herself as him and forget. Can he really communicate through email? I’m so confused and not in a good way. Episodically I can buy into Fringe but when they get all conspiracy theory with absolutely no answers, I’m ready to switch to anything else. Just one solid lead would be nice. I guess we’ll see how it turns out next week when Massive Dynamic is after Dunham. Say it with me: Don, don, don….
