What Agent Carter Season 2 Will Change And When It Will Air
For months, Agent Carter fans have been wringing their hands wondering if the limited series would be returning, but they can rest easy now. Last week, ABC announced that Agent Carter will be returning for Season 2, giving both Marvel fans and casual viewers more Peggy Carter adventures for the small screen. Now the network has revealed not only when we can expect to see the show return but a few plot details to whet our appetite, as well.
Earlier today, as part of ABC's upfront decision-making, it was announced that Agent Carter will retain its status as a midseason show, taking Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s timeslot while that show goes on hiatus in January. ABC didn’t say how many episodes will be in the new season, but if Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be gone for the same amount of time, it will probably be around 8 again. The network also released a description for what we can expect from Agent Carter Season 2.
So while Season 1 saw Peggy and her allies fighting bad guys in the Big Apple, Season 2 will see Marvel’s super spy traveling to the City of Angels to combat threats. Given her particular skill set and that this is an MCU story, something tells me she won’t be heading to California to figure out whether any big movie stars are Communists. It’s also uncertain exactly how long Season 2 will take place after Season 1, which was set in 1946. The only clue given is that it’s still the “post-war” period, but that gap could be anywhere from a few months to a few years later.
What’s especially curious about this description is that Hayley Atwell is the only actress listed. There’s no mention of whether any of the other major Season 1 characters will be appearing, like James D’Arcy’s Edwin Jarvis or Lyndsy Fonseca’s Angie Martinelli. It could be that the main cast of Agent Carter Season 2 will consist of new people, but we may see guest appearances from several established characters, similar to how Howard Stark was used this past season.
As for Peggy possibly finding herself another love interest, that can’t be good for Enver Gjokaj’s Daniel Sousa, who asked Peggy out for a drink in the Season 1 finale, but was given a rain check. We learned that Peggy eventually got married and had a family in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, so perhaps the California man is the guy she settles down with… or maybe he’s just an undercover bad guy with an evil agenda. Both are equally likely scenarios in the spy world.
