Avengers Blu-Ray Will Include Whedon Commentary, Gag Reel, And More
Just yesterday the word broke that we'll only have to wait a few short months to get a copy of Marvel's blockbuster Avengers on Blu-ray and DVD. But while yesterday's announcement included the September 25th street date and a rather kickass trailer, it didn't provide specifics of just what sort of goodies the discs will include. Thankfully that's been remedied today, as Disney/Marvel have released the full rundown of bonus features, and it looks promising.
The Avengers will follow what's become SOP for home-video releases these days, meaning there's going to be a multi-disc combo pack that bundles in damn near every viewing format this side of Betamax. The four-disc combo pack will give you the movie on 3D Blu-ray, regular Blu-ray, DVD, a digital copy, and a digital download of the "inspired by the film" soundtrack album, and will list for $49.99. Next rung down the ladder is the two-disc Blu-ray/DVD combo pack, which will only set you back $39.99. Or you can opt for the single-disc DVD edition for $29.99. The film will also be available via various digital retailers and On Demand.
We've got the full rundown of bonus features below, but there are a couple of things worth singling out. First up is the Joss Whedon commentary, which isn't terribly surprising but is exciting. Anyone who's followed Joss and his work over the years knows that he's passionate about these characters and that his commentaries are often hilarious and insightful. The Avengers commentary shouldn't disappoint. Second is the gag reel, which the press release points out is a first for any of the Marvel Studios movies.
Also worth mentioning is that Marvel is planning on releasing something called The Avengers Initiative: A Marvel Second Screen App in July. You'll be able to download this onto your phone or tablet or whatnot and view exclusive content in the weeks leading up to the Avengers Blu-ray/DVD release. Marvel will be releasing new content to the app on a biweekly basis during July and August, then weekly once we hit September.
