Batman's First Scene In Dawn Of Justice Is Like A Horror Movie, According To Ben Affleck

Criminals are a superstitious and cowardly lot. That’s the thesis behind Batman’s entire crime fighting career, and it’s the way he singlehandedly takes on armies of bad guys. If the Man of Steel represents hope, then The Dark Knight represents horror and fear. Bruce Wayne understands how to harness that terror, and according to Ben Affleck, The Caped Crusader’s first appearance in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will play out like a scene from a horror film.

Ben Affleck recently sat down with the LA Times and explained that Batman’s first scene in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will play out like a horror movie:

Exactly. It's like out of Se7en or Aliens or something, which is a really different vibe. My son still watches the Adam West Batman [TV series]. It's a far cry from where it started.

From this statement we can reasonably assume that Batman’s debut in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will showcase his tremendous ability to appear and disappear at will, as well as his ability to tap into the fear of criminals. The comparisons to Aliens lead us to guess that he will stalk his enemies in a similar manner to the Xenomorphs from Ridley Scott’s sci-fi/horror franchise, while the comparisons to Se7en have us wondering if Bruce Wayne might take some sort of sick pleasure in the pain he inflicts upon his enemies. This Batman isn't messing around.

It’s an idea as old as Batman himself, but one that hasn’t necessarily received thorough exploration in live action. Distilled to his most basic elements, Batman is pretty much a badass ninja. Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy showcased his ability to terrify criminals from the shadows on numerous occasions, but it seems that Zack Snyder’s version of the character will take that concept one step further by lending a genuine sense that Batfleck is a monster lurking in the dark.

We’ve seen glimpses of what Ben Affleck is getting at with this statement. Just look at the most recent trailer for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice to see how one man can terrify – and subsequently put down – a room full of armed thugs:

It goes without saying, but I am going to say it anyway: this latest incarnation of Batman sounds absolutely incredible. We will just have to wait and see how terrifying Batman truly is when Batman and Superman finally go head to head in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. The long-awaited superhero melee will hit theaters later this month on Mach 25. Stayed tuned for more details!
