Guardians Of The Galaxy Rumors Suggest Karen Gillan Could Be A Sword-Wielding Bounty Hunter
Doctor Who fans rejoiced late last month when it was revealed that Karen Gillan, the redheaded Scottish actress best known for playing companion Amy Pond on the long-running BBC series, had joined the cast of James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy. As exciting as the news was, however, it didn't come with many details. The casting report told us that Gillan would be playing the lead female villain, but failed to mention a name or how she would fit into the plot. There's been plenty of speculation in the time since - as comic book fans have been known to do - but now a new, interesting rumor has surfaced that could possibly reveal the antagonist's identity.
Screen Rant has discovered a clipping from a Scottish newspaper on NeoGAF.com that suggests that Gillan could be playing Angela, the sword-wielding, scantily clad bounty hunter created by Neil Gaiman and Todd MacFarlane as part of the Spawn universe. The character was first introduced back in the early 90s, but is perhaps best known for being at the middle of a court battle between Gaiman and MacFarlane regarding who owned the rights to her. It was ultimately decided that the two writers would share custody of Angela, and Gaiman is using her for the on-going Age of Ultron crossover event that he is currently working on for Marvel. Giving even more credence to this rumor is that she is going to be a part of Brian Michael Bendis’ comic relaunch of Guardians of the Galaxy. Check out the full newspaper clipping below.
While there are certainly elements of this rumor that make a lot of sense, you should still probably take it with a grain of salt. We can't fully identify the source of this information, and it could just be the result of someone connecting a few dots and making an educated guess based on the fact that Gillan has red hair. But should this rumor turn out to be true, is it something that you would be excited to see play out in Guardians of the Galaxy? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below and see the movie in theaters on August 1, 2014.
