Jennifer Lawrence For Ghostbusters 3? We Have Momentum

One name you don’t hear associated with Ghostbusters casting rumors has been Jennifer Lawrence. And why would you? The multi-talented actress already has two franchises to her name in The Hunger Games and the X-Men series. When she isn’t lending her powers to a tentpole, she’s contending for Oscars in a David O. Russell drama like American Hustle or Joy. But her name is now in the Ghostbusters conversation, mainly because she put it there.

MTV UK spent their past few junket slots asking major movie stars who they’d like to see in Paul Feig’s all-female Ghostbusters movie. They questioned the Interstellar cast, the Exodus: Gods and Kings cast, and the Hunger Games crew. During which, Jennifer Lawrence admitted to meeting with Feig about the movie over dinner. It was a very casual name drop, and it even took her Hunger Games co-stars Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson completely by surprise. "I actually met with the director," she confesses. "I had dinner with him. … I will never cross streams."

What’s unclear is whether Lawrence met Feig for dinner socially, or if he was approaching her for a possible role in Ghostbusters. I’m guessing it’s the latter, the way that she brings it up in conversation. If you are Paul Feig, of course you would pitch a role to Jennifer Lawrence for a third Ghostbusters. She is one of the biggest stars on the planet. She’s extremely comfortable in comedy and drama. And she has plenty of experience with the types of effects that Feig will need to master to bring this franchise back to life.

But you should listen to the entire clip, and hear her thoughts in context. They start around the 40-second mark. Also, by the end of the clip, Lawrence basically admits that she didn’t even know there was a Ghostbusters II. "Who’s in Two?" she asks innocently, and then freaks out when she finds out the original cast returned for a sequel. Sorry, Bill Murray. Don’t take it personally, Dan Aykroyd.

Jennifer Lawrence might be the only celeb who can look that adorable while throwing shade at a pop-culture classic like Ghostbusters II. In the meantime, the casting wheel continues to spin on Ghostbusters. If not Lawrence (who sounds like she passed), who would you like to see wearing the proton pack for Paul Feig?
