Joss Whedon Talks The Connection Between Guardians Of The Galaxy And Avengers 2
While James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy sounds awesome and has been assembling an amazing cast, the big question mark surrounding it is in regard to how it will fit into the rest of Marvel Cinematic Universe. Phase One of the studio's helped establish Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America and Thor on Earth and The Avengers united them, so how will the Guardians be folded into the mix for The Avengers 2?
The short answer, it seems, is that they won't be. Bleeding Cool recently had the chance to attend a gala screening of Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing in London and had a chance to quickly speak with the filmmaker before the movie. Discussing Guardians of the Galaxy, Whedon noted that the production of Avengers 2 will be following it at England's famous Shepperton Studios, but said that there wouldn't be too much turf shared by the two otherwise. " Said the writer/director, "We’re following Guardians at Shepperton but we won’t be swapping cast members. Every movie is its own thing and has to be. Unless I take a lot of peyote and write a very different draft… and I’m not ruling that out."
It's been confirmed that Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver would be part of the group the second time around, but sadly it doesn't sound like Whedon has left much room for Chris Pratt's Star-Lord and pals. Still, we've heard endless rumors and suggestion that the main villain of Guardians of the Galaxy is Thanos, who we all know has ties to The Avengers thanks to the Chitauri invasion, so perhaps it will be just that that ends up tying the worlds together. I guess we'll have to wait and find out when Guardians hits theaters on August 1, 2014 and Avengers 2 arrives on May 1, 2015.
