Seth McFarlane Reveals A Release Date For Ted 2
I didn’t want to like Seth McFarlane’s Ted before I watched it, because while the I respect the guy for his career ascent in Hollywood, I've always found that his sense of humor is limited to gross-out gags and 1980s parodies. But Ted ended up being a better movie than I expected. Not a great one, mind you, but one good enough that the inevitable sequel news wasn’t so off-putting. But it looks like we’ll be waiting at least another year and a half for Ted 2 to come out. McFarlane has taken to the Twittersphere to get the news out there, answering a fan’s question about the movie's release date. Read his response below.
Is anyone else slightly amused that instead of saying “Spring 2015” or “April 2015,” he chose to use a religious holiday to mark the date? A known atheist, McFarlane must have been amused with himself for giving this answer. But it actually gives a two weekend window for the premiere to fall into, as Passover begins on Friday, April 3, 2015 and ends on Saturday, April 11th. Astoundingly, even though the upcoming movie release calendar is peppered with films that are still one to two years away, no other films have set their releases for either of these April dates.
Mark Wahlberg spoke with Digital Spy last week about Ted 2, saying that they were eyeing a production start in May 2014, which makes sense, seeing as how the animation of Ted himself will take a lot longer than the rest of the filming process. Gotta get that fur moving in just the right way as he sings karaoke! I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re already working on Ted’s animation as we speak. I hope he gets brought back ominously like Child’s Play’s Chucky doll.
It’ll be rather exciting to see if Ted 2 can possibly top the first film’s box office numbers, since it absolutely blew up both domestically and internationally, raking in over $571 million worldwide by the end of its theatrical run. Those kinds of number are usually earned by sequels and comic book adaptations, not R-rated comedies. Expect things to get even filthier this go-around, as it doesn't look as though McFarlane maturity level will be rising any time soon.
