The Rock Just Earned An Incredible Financial Honor, Get The Details

The Rock

If it seems like The Rock is always making movies, that's because he is. He always seems to be juggling a half dozen different films, but as it turns out, there's a benefit to working that hard. According to a new report, The Rock is currently the highest paid actor in the entire world, banking an impressive $64.5 million. The Rock may have millions...and millions of fans, but he's also got millions...and millions of dollars to go along with them.

According to Forbes Magazine, Dwayne Johnson made less than half of his current total in 2015, but as a major part of the Fast and Furious franchise, the actor has been demanding more money, and he's apparently been getting every penny. While we've only seen one major release from him this year, the summer comedy Central Intelligence, his upfront fees for next year's Fast 8 and Baywatch helped push him over the top of the number two highest grossing actor, Jackie Chan, who's been making some serious coin over in China. His total came in at $61 million. The number three spot goes to Matt Damon, who only made $51 million. Although, like The Rock, he more than doubled his 2015 total to get into the top five.

A quarter of the total Forbes list came from outside the United States, including India and China. In order to qualify for the list, an actor had to make at least $15 million between June 1, 2015, and June 1, 2016.

With the sort of schedule that The Rock has, we can likely get used to seeing him at the top of lists like this. Whether or not he's getting paychecks that are quite in the range of a Robert Downey Jr. or Johnny Depp, the man has a full slate of films already planned that will likely keep him busy for a few years, and each will likely pay well. He'll' voice a lead character in Disney's Moana this November, the paycheck for that was likely part of what got him to the top of this list. He's about to start filming a new Jumanji movie very soon. Following that, we've got a sequel to San Andreas, a film based on the video game Rampage, a likely role in Shane Black's Doc Savage, his first superhero role in _Shazam,_ two sequels to Journey to the Center of the Earth, and possibly a film based on Disney's Jungle Cruise ride. Rocky may not make as much per picture as some, but he'll make up for it volume.

Many actors these days take some of their pay from the film's profits, meaning that if all these films are successful, it will only mean more money for The Rock. Not bad for a kid named Dwayne. The Rock is even more successful when you realize that whatever money he makes from occasional appearances with WWE don't even get added to this list. Whatever he might make from a match against Vin Diesel is just gravy.
