What Mark Hamill Thinks Of Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford's Star Wars Affair

Star Wars

A 40-year-old affair was recently revealed when Carrie Fisher confessed to an affair with Harrison Ford during the filming of Star Wars. Now we know what the third star of the film trilogy thought of the whole thing. Although, apparently, at the time he thought absolutely nothing of it, because he had no clue it was going on. Mark Hamill says he was a bit too self-absorbed to notice what other people were doing on the set.

I was blissfully unaware. I was so self-involved at that point, they could've been doing it in front of me and I wouldn't have noticed. I was single and had my own agenda.

Carrie Fisher has written autobiographies before, but her newest, The Princess Diarist was the first to contain the revelation that back in the late 1970s Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford carried on an affair. One might think that keeping such a thing secret while you're working so closely with others would be tough. For what it's worth, Mark Hamill tells ET that the reason he didn't know may not have been because they were really good at keeping a secret and may have been more because he just wasn't paying attention.

Mark Hamill goes on to talk about how on-set relationships, while common, can be difficult if they don't out last the project. Hamill himself dated one of his co-stars during a short stint on General Hospital. He doesn't specifically say that things got awkward on the set, but it's sort of implied by the fact that it was his example. It doesn't appear that this was the case for Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher. The affair was long over by the time the cast reunited to film Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back but it would seem that there were no issues between the two, even though the script required them to kiss on camera, rather than off as they had been doing previously.

It's probably a very good thing that mark Hamill didn't know what was going on between his co-stars. The actor says himself that it could very easily have been a distraction had he known the truth. Being the third wheel is never easy.

In the end, it appears that everybody is still friends. The three will always be connected due to their association with Star Wars. Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill will next be seen in their famous roles when Star Wars: Episode VIII arrives in theaters next year.
