Gears of War 2 is being shown off tomorrow morning on Xbox LIVE. And now I have nothing else to say because everyone has turned away to play GTA IV until such time as Microsoft and Epic put the first trailer showing gameplay up.
I didnít like the original Gears of War. Iíll tell you why I didnít like it: it was short, repetitive, riddled with samey environments and offered nothing new in the area of gameplay. But on the upside of this discussion there is a great deal of promise looming overhead for Gears of War 2.
Weíre probably still in the devil dealing phases, but Iím sure some intrepid Blend reporters will make a showing at the famed San Diego Comic Con this summer. Not me though, thatís just too far away from good olí New York.
Valve Software owned Steam, the iTunes of gaming, has announced another big name contributor in the form of Epic. Epic, developer of the recent PC and Xbox 360 smash Gears of War, is releasing a boatload of Unreal Tournament games at a variety of prices.
Iím just writing words here to fill up space, because this news item is deserving of a story even if itís only one line in length. Weíve been waiting for a few months for official word on Gears of War 2. Hell, we have been damn sure itís on the way. Possibly even done for all we know.
Look, Iíve heard the PC arguments all before. And to be honest there was a time when I cared. Back when the original Half-Life was big time I conceded that it would never work on consoles, at least not as they once were. But innovations and market changes have seen the gaming world change, and with it the relevancy of PCís in the overall scheme of things. Itís a trend that Epicís Mark Rein has noticed as well.
I have no idea how valid this information is. But the fact of the matter is itís the smallest morsel of Gears of War 2 data. Hell, we donít even know that the game will be made officially. Right now Epic is focused externally on Unreal Tournament 3. but some intrepid tipsters somehow have info on a map Ė I assume single player from the looks of it, but who knows? Ė and minor other items.
Hey there PS3, youíre starting to look quite dashing in your black suit this holiday season. With Ratchet & Clank kicking Jell-O gun ass, and Uncharted delivering the goods weíve all been waiting for, the floundering system is making a good show this fall. Midway and Epic announced today that Unreal Tournament 3 will in fact be making it out this year.
