What The Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Spinoff Will Actually Be About

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is returning from its winter hiatus in a couple weeks, but Marvel is already looking ahead to the paired adventures of two of its main players: Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter. Last year, it was reported that ABC was giving the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff, titled Marvel’s Most Wanted, another shot, with Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood starring as their respective characters, the spinoff then earned a pilot order last month. Now the basic premise of the spinoff has finally been released, giving fans an idea of what to expect when these two go venturing away from their fellow S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.

Warning: potential spoilers for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 3 are ahead!

According to the official Marvel’s Most Wanted synopsis on Deadline, Bobbi and Lance will find themselves on the run with no friends or S.H.I.E.L.D. allies to help them out, and a “long list of enemies” who want to claim the bounty on their head. The couple will subsequently form an “uneasy alliance” with Dominic Fortune (played by Delroy Lindo), a rogue adventurer with his own vast resources and even more adversaries on his tail. He agrees to protect them as long as they help him with his agenda, and Bobbi and Mack will try to help out as many people as they can while figuring out the conspiracy that put them in danger.

The biggest reveal from this synopsis is that something is going to happen to Bobbi and Lance on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. sometime in the coming months that will force them to go on the run. Whatever (or whoever) threw their life into disarray, they’re now pressured to leave the spy organization and turn to Dominic for help. However they meet up with the adventurer, it’s clear that their relationship in Marvel’s Most Wanted will be a “you scratch my back, I scratch yours” dynamic. As the story progresses (assuming it gets ordered to series, of course), Bobbi and Lance will learn more about the forces targeting them, and in Dominic’s case, we’ll learn more about his past.

One also wonders if Marvel’s Most Wanted will cross over with its parent show, similar to how Arrow and The Flash have their crossover episodes each year. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. hasn’t had to worry about that with Agent Carter since the latter is set in a different time period, but they may want to have an unofficial team-up across the two shows to give audiences something new. Plus, if some Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. fans aren’t keen on jumping onto to Marvel’s Most Wanted at any point, such a crossover would give a satisfactory update on what Bobbi and Lance are up to.

Should Marvel’s Most Wanted be picked up for series, it will likely air sometime this fall, but we’ll keep you apprised on any updates regarding its development.
