Farewell, Dr. Cuddy: Lisa Edelstein Is Leaving House

From this latest bit of House-related news, it would appear that the roller coaster ride that is the House and Cuddy relationship is coming to an end. Word is, Lisa Edelstein will not be returning to the Fox medical drama series next season.

According to TV Line, Lisa Edelstein’s contract expired this month and she has opted not to return for what is likely to be the series’ final season. Edelstein, who plays Dr. House’s boss and occasional love interest Cuddy, stated, “After much consideration, I am moving onward with a combination of disappointment at leaving behind a character I have loved playing for seven years and excitement of the new opportunities in acting and producing that lie ahead.”

TV Line speculates that budget cuts may have something to do with Edelstein’s departure, suggesting that “perhaps she rejected a low-ball offer,” which would explain her use of the word “disappointed.” Regardless, even as a casual House viewer, I know the show won’t be the same without her or the excellent chemistry she has with series star Hugh Laurie.
