First Look At Bill Murray's Weird Netflix Christmas Special

It’s official. Bill Murray is getting that Netflix Christmas special we’ve been vaguely hearing about for months. The subscription streaming service announced the news on Friday, noting the new special will nod at the “classic variety show.” The service also released this lovely teaser trailer, which features none other than Bill Murray wearing reindeer ears. You gotta love the guy.

In the video, we see Murray hanging out in a super nice hotel alone. He’s looking a little winsome and disappointed, and as the Netflix announcement notes, it’s probably because he is hanging out at the Carlyle Hotel following a huge winter storm in New York. He’s super worried that all of his friends won’t make it to film his TV show. Just look at this crushed face.

The good news? The upcoming special, which is rolling with the title A Very Murray Christmas, doesn’t look as if it will be a downer for very long. Sofia Coppola is directing the fun-spirited special, and a slew of big names are set to be involved, which means we can expect Murray’s pals to show up for him around the holiday! We’ve known for a while that the oddball special has already signed on The Late Show’s Paul Shaffer, along with heavy hitters like George Clooney and Amy Poehler. Today’s big announcement notes that a ton of other names will be involved, including Chris Rock, Rashida Jones, Miley Cyrus, , Michael Cera, David Johansen, Maya Rudolph, Jason Schwartzman, Jenny Lewis, Phoenix, Julie White, Dimitri Dimitrov, Frederic Moulin, and more.

Honestly, we still don’t know a ton about A Very Murray Christmas. We do know that Coppola, Mitch Glazer, Roman Coppola and Tony Hernandez are set to executive produce the special. Recently, Clooney also explained his very bizarre role in the special.

I sit on a piano bench with Paul and pretend to sing, which they don’t let me. And I rode in a sleigh with Miley Cyrus being pulled by the Rockettes.

I know, madness. Honestly, Bill Murray’s always up to wacky shit, from popping out of cakes (to surprise David Letterman) to playing a dead guy on Parks and Recreation. That’s not even including the times he’s gotten into wacky stuff in public, like giving speeches at bachelor parties or the occasional golf course shenanigans. He’s a madman, and we can’t wait for that madness to come to Netflix next December. In the meantime, here’s what Netflix has coming up.
