TV Recap: Ugly Betty - Rabbit Test

Betty’s back and she’s saving Meade’s ass, as per usual. She can’t save Christina, though, who is now positive William is her baby. She also can’t help Daniel keep his dignity. Hey, at least they all can still work at the magazine.

Everything at Mode is being repossessed and there is no way to stop it. The sex issue didn’t do anything to drum up sales and everything non-essential has been cut from the budget. Then, an eggvitation shows up for Betty. What’s an eggvitation, you ask? Well, Matt’s dad hosts the Hartley Charitable Foundation Easter Egg Hunt every year. See, his dad is basically the richest man in the world. Cal Hartley has done everything from going into space to solving the problems in the Middle East. And now Betty is invited to meet him, as is her entire family. Daniel is jealous, naturally, having waited for an eggvitation since he took over Mode. No such luck, though. Chin up, turns out Cal likes to help struggling businesses, especially media businesses.

With an inkling of hope at setting up a meeting, Daniel stays up all night preparing the presentation as Betty walks hopefully towards Matt. There’s just one little problem: Matt refuses to set up a meeting for Daniel with his dad. See, his father owns everything except the publishing world. Matt had finally found something of his own working at a magazine, but having his father involved would take that away. Plus, he says his father is too difficult to work for and he doesn’t want to put Betty and her friends through that. Betty can’t tell Daniel, though, because it would break his heart. Doesn’t she know by now that you can’t keep secrets? Of course Daniel finds out that he didn’t get the meeting and Matt finds out that Betty lied.

Now that everyone knows the truth, things are getting even worse around Meade publications. It’s time for some tough choices to be made and that means cutbacks. There are pink slips flying and one comes right towards…Amanda. Finally, something to actually make Betty understand the trouble Meade is in. Matt still says no to the meeting but there is still that eggvitation sitting on her desk. And a plan is hatched…no pun intended.

Betty helps Daniel crash the Easter egg hunt. Matt is disappointed but he gets over it when Betty tells him how dire things are at Mode, although he is still upset that Betty went behind his back. It seems to have worked, though. After being made to dress up as “Floppy the Bunny,” Daniel scores the meeting with Cal and he agrees to invest. Be warned, Mode folk, Matt did say his father has some control issues. Luckily, Daniel seems to be taking that in stride. Must be because he had so much practice with all the other egotistical rich men in his life.

Mode is safe for now but baby William isn’t. Everyone keeps saying that he looks more like Christina than either Bradford or Willie. But what would happen to Willie’s foothold in Meade if he turned out not to be hers? Exactly. Still, it is a possibility since Christina broke the rules and had sex before the operation. The blood test proves otherwise and Willie tells Christina to stay away from her son. It is strange, though, how bonded that baby is to Christina. I think I know how she’s leaving the show….Next week must be the case of the missing heir. Oh, Christina, so much drama.
