The DVD Blend Is Knocked Up

Each week DVDs come out. Some of them are worth your time and money and some aren't. Some of them are movies I've seen, and some of them aren’t. Regardless, I give you my opinion on the big releases of the week. If the releases sound like something you want to buy, just click the link to go to Amazon.com and you’ll support Cinema Blend with a few pennies. Take it or leave it, here's the DVD Blend.

Cinema Blend Pick of the Week:

Knocked Up

I wasn’t the Judd Apatow fanatic that many people around the site were prior to this summer, but Knocked Up definitely moved me in that direction. In one film Apatow shows off both the sophomoric stupidity of men and the ability to transcend that and step up to the plate when the need arises. Just about every guy can be found somewhere in between. The great thing is Apatow doesn’t stoop to typical movie storytelling and have Seth Rogen’s character suddently transform into a flawless, dedicated father, nor is Paul Rudd’s more experienced parent a perfect specimen of parenthood. In Apatow’s world, both men and women are flawed creations, able to do what needs to be done when fate comes knocking (such as an accidental pregnancy), but still making mistakes even after they improve themselves. Some of the DVD content is stuff we’ve already seen online (the fake audition tapes from other actors playing the lead role), but that doesn’t make them any less funny. Definitely this year’s best comedy!

Worth mentioning:
Row 1 - Cell 0 Next - Nicolas Cage headlines this adaptation of a Phillip K. Dick story. While this is more Paycheck than Blade Runner, it’s still a fun little action movie with a decent cast. The disc isn’t heavily loaded, but as a guilty pleasure you’ll only watch it so frequently anyway.Row 1 - Cell 2 My Name Is Earl: Season 2 - Jason Lee’s comedy may not have done anything tremendously groundbreaking in its second season, but staying the course was more than enough. With guest stars like Roseanne Barr and Christian Slater, watching a redneck attempt to balance his karma has never been so much fun.
