Roman Polanski Is Wanted And Desired On DVD

Revisit the 1977 crime of a world famous film director on DVD January 27th. Image Entertainment brings you Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired, a documentary covering every element of the incident during which Polanski allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl.

When you think of the name Roman Polanski, odds are, you think of the critically acclaimed films he directed such as The Pianist (2002) or even his short cameo in Rush Hour 3 (2007). Not many seem to recall the fact that in the late 70s, Polanski fled the states after pleading guilty to unlawfully engaging in sexual intercourse with a minor. Ever since, Polanski has maintained citizenship in France where he continues to direct movies.

Director Marina Zenovic mixes interviews with the event’s key players, archival footage, and new video in order to create a film that explores the tragedy without any hint of apology. The subjects involved include Jack Nicholson, Faye Dunaway, Michael Caine, Hugh Hefner and the victim herself, Samantha Geimer. In addition, Polanski’s defense attorney, Douglas Dalton, revisits the case for the first time in 30 years.

Sounds like a True Hollywood Story to the extreme. Even though documentaries are not the typical film genre I go for, this story is rather intriguing. It was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize and won the Editing Award at the Sunday Film Festival, so there must be something good about it. Passing up on a goofy comedy for a true story so significant to the history of the film industry couldn’t hurt once in a while. You can pick up Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired on DVD for $27.98
