Dead By Daylight Is Adding The Saw Franchise
Dead by Daylight is gearing up to drop its eleventh killer into the multiplayer horror romp and, based on a new teaser trailer, we've got a pretty good feeling that it's another face from the silver screen: Jigsaw.
The above teaser trailer for Dead by Daylight is short but effective. We see an odd contraption with a lock and a timer attached. There's also a mannequin head in the background. When the timer hits zero, the contraption snaps shut and we see the words "Let's play a game..." splash across the screen.
While nothing has been totally confirmed yet, we feel this is pretty solid proof that the Saw film franchise is about to become a part of the popular horror game. The deadly trap, combined with the direct quote from the films, is about as ironclad a reference as one could hope for.
While the Saw film series' mascot has always been the terrifying little clown puppet riding a tricycle, we figure the actual in-game avatar will be one of Jigsaw's forms, namely the hooded cloak-wearing figure with long black hair and a pig's face.
If you're new to the Dead by Daylight game, it's actually pretty similar to another title, Friday the 13th: The Game. If we're going a bit broad, you could throw a game like Evolve into the mix, too. In short, it's an asymmetrical multiplayer game wherein one group of players is trying to outlive the big bad, which is played by a solo player.
In Dead by Daylight, players take on the roles of various survivor tropes who each have their own abilities, strengths and weaknesses. Their goal is to out-live the killer, a collection of nasties both original and familiar. The game's unique roster includes an insane doctor, a haunting witch and a nurse who looks like she was pulled straight out of Silent Hill. Recently, though, the developers have been inking deals to include Hollywood horrors, who bring some of their trademark film abilities into the game. That roster includes Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger and Junior Sawyer, a.k.a. Leatherface. If our suspicions are correct, then Jigsaw will be the game's 11th killer and fourth movie cameo star.
Dead by Daylight already has an impressive audience, especially since the game works so well for this stram-happy generation of gamers. Rather than watch someone run around in a standard FPS like Call of Duty, it's extra entertaining to watch players serve as either the hunter or the hunted in a game like this. The inclusion of legendary movie monsters only strengthens that formula.

We don't have a launch date for this next update but, since they've released a teaser trailer, we assume a proper reveal trailer with extra details can't be too far off. In the meantime, what abilities do you think Jigsaw should have available in the game? Let us know in the comments below.
