Atari is still making games believe it or not. Their latest offering is called Minimum and it's a third-person, 5-on-5 battle-arena game. Now I know that description sounds pretty lame and doesn't seem terribly interesting, but the truth is that the weapon customization, character customization and titan battles (yes there are titans) all help give the game a bit of an identity all its own. What's more is that Atari has announced that Minimum is now finished and that the game is available right now for 50% off on Steam's store, in celebration of exiting the Early Access phase.

The game is a competitive battle-arena title where you can and get killed; you earn points for playing well and then use those points to craft new items, weapons and armor. You can acquire schematics that will open up a wider variety of gear and give your character the sort of tactical edge to lay the smack down on enemies.

The gameplay reminds me a bit of a mix of Halo meets Star Wars: Battlefront. It's moderately paced and has a decent measure of gunplay mechanics at work. And funnily enough, even though the game uses a very basic means of visual aesthetics, the graphics look really good. A lot of it has to do with the smooth animations, the light rendering and the stage designs. You can check it out in the launch trailer below.

The game has a cooperative horde mode, so you and your friends can fend yourself off from waves of baddies, a Steam item trading system so can you relieve your character of worthless junk, deployable devices to help turn the tide during battle and – as mentioned at the top of the article – customizable gear.

Additionally, there's a team deathmatch mode and a titan mode, the latter of which sees players fighting to protect their titan in an arena while the other team aims to do the same thing. You get to briefly see the titans in action in the trailer above.

If you still don't really grasp what the game is about, hop to the 16:00 mark in the video below to see how the gameplay is and what the shooting mechanics and maps are like.

You can get your hands on Minimum right now for 50% off the regular purchasing price. So instead of paying $9.99 for the game, you can grab Minimum for only $4.99.

You can learn more about the game by paying a visit to the official Minimum website.
