GTA 5 Online High Life Update Confirmed For May, Double RP And Cash Weekend Starts Today

GTA 5 Double Progression Weekend

Rockstar Games provided an update on GTA Online's High Life Update. They also announced an event that will help you prepare for the free DLC's launch.

The studio revealed on Rockstar Newswire that the High Life Update will arrive sometime in May. Sadly, they didn't get anymore specific than that. It's nice to know that players won't have to go another month without new content, though.

In the meantime, Rockstar wants you to keep playing GTA Online. They're launching a double progression weekend today. From today until midnight tomorrow (Eastern time), the following activities will earn you twice the usual amount of GTA$ and Reputation Points:

  • Races
  • Deathmatch & Team Deathmatch
  • Capture
  • Last Team Standing
  • Survival
  • Missions
  • Parachuting
  • Gang Attacks
  • Hold Ups
  • Import Export
  • Losing Wanted Level

The GTA Online High Life Update introduces several luxury items for players to purchase, including lavish apartments and expensive sports cars. Players can also add the Bullpup Rifle to their arsenal once the DLC arrives. For the first time, players will be able to own multiple properties.

GTA Online had a bumpy April. Players found out how to use the Content Creator to "freeze" their cash supply, allowing them to buy whatever they want at no cost:

This forced Rockstar to deactivate the mission-building tools until they fixed the bug. This was especially annoying because the company had just added Capture mode support to the Creator.

It seemed possible that this glitch and smaller ones like it would delay the High Life Update. However, if Rockstar is going to release High Life in May, that would maintain the monthly schedule for DLC they started in February with the Valentine's Day Massacre.

This gives me hope that Rockstar can add online heists to the game in June. They promised to add these co-op missions sometime in the spring. Their plans for the rest of 2014 include additional holiday DLC packs and the first Story Mode add-ons.
