Captain America: Civil War May Feature This Shocking Scene

In war, there are casualties; and it appears that Captain America: Civil War will be no exception. Although Marvel has no problem offing the majority of their villains, none of their big heroes, aside from Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron, have yet made the ultimate sacrifice. However, it’s now being reported that during the movie, there will be a shocking scene featuring one of the major participants in the superhero conflict meeting their demise.

Warning: there are potentially major spoilers for Captain America: Civil War ahead! If you don’t want to know who might bite the dust, turn back and click on another one of our fine articles.

As reported earlier this year, Steve Rogers’ World War II love Peggy Carter is expected to pass away, with the beginning of Captain America: Civil War showing her funeral. However, That Hashtag Show has also heard that the movie will also end with a funeral: Captain America’s. Yes, just like in the original Civil War story, Steve will surrender himself to the U.S. government, though he only agrees to do so in exchange for his allies during the conflict not being hunted down. After being taken into custody, he is killed, though it’s left ambiguous whether this was planned or not. If it’s the latter, I suspect Zemo will have a hand in the assassination.

As expected, Steve’s death will hit Tony Stark extremely hard, and the rest of the superhero community will blame Tony for what happened. This lines up with the aftermath of Steve’s death in the Fallen Son storyline, as will the fact that the Captain America legacy won’t be left to gather dust. There is apparently also a scene where three characters will be shown picking up his trademark shield: Bucky Barnes (a.k.a. The Winter Soldier), Sam Wilson (a.k.a. The Falcon) and Sharon Carter (a.k.a. Agent 13). This implies that one of them will become the new Captain America. My guess is Bucky will be the one to carry on his friend’s mission, seeing as he's the actual successor in the comics.

Although this sounds like a faithful adaptation of Steve’s tragic "death" (spoiler: he came back) in the comics, it is curious this is happening in the MCU. The main reason that this is a surprising cinematic development is the fact that Chris Evans is confirmed to appear in one, if not both, of the Avengers: Infinity War movies. That leaves a few possibilities for how audiences will see him again on the big screen. The most likely result could be that just like Nick Fury in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Steve’s death has been faked, and he’ll come out of hiding once Thanos arrives on Earth.

The second alternative is that Steve will somehow be resurrected during Thanos’ invasion, most likely via a cosmic force like the Infinity Stones. The third option is that Steve’s presence in the Infinity War movies will simply be through flashbacks, and either Bucky, Sam or Sharon being seen as the new Star Spangled Avenger on the team. Either way, just because Captain America might be dying in his next film doesn’t mean we won’t be without him in the coming years.

We’ll find out what’s in store for Steve Rogers’ future when Captain America: Civil War arrives in theaters on May 6, 2016. In the meantime, let us know in the comments who you think will be the next Star Spangled Avenger!
