Forbidden Planet Remake Not A Remake?

It's pretty ballsy to say of any movie, "It's something no one has ever thought of." It's even ballsier to say that about an honest-to-God remake, especially one like Forbidden Planet, which already has fans waiting to be in up in arms about it. But J. Michael Straczynski, the screenwriter who earned lots of geek cred thanks to Babylon 5, is making a lot of promises about how much better it'll be than your low expectations.

“I told [producer] Joel [Silver] this is how you do Forbidden Planet without pissing on the original that no one has ever thought of,” Straczynski told MTV. "It’s not a remake. It’s not a reimagining. It’s not exactly a prequel. You’ll have to see it. It’s something that no one has thought of when it comes to this storyline.”

Straczynski is also promising the film won't look retro at all, given that, when the original was made in 1954, they were honestly trying to capture a version of the future. So he can see a million years into the future and make an original remake? Sounds like Straczynski, or JMS to some, is a good guy to have around in a sci-fi pinch.
